Fashion Travel, How Dominicana Moda is Transforming Destination travel in the Caribbean.

Dominicana Moda has become the most advertised event in the history of Dominican Republic. With the vision to present to the world the talented Designers of the country. A country known for their fashion, just as it is know today by baseball and music.

The Dominican Republic’s prestigious Fashion Week, Dominicana Moda, first held in 2006  with the appearance of designers such as Elie Saab, Oscar De la Renta and Marquesa, will be held this year  21 – 26th October 2013 in the iconic   Western hotel Ambassador in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic.

Since its beginnings the event has had social responsibility, so that most part of the income goes to more than 40 charities, which is the ideology of the project, and they spend much of the proceeds to fund humanitarian work carried out by various foundations to the neediest children in the Dominican Republic.

Art director, Socrates McKinney, reported that "as every year the catwalks of DM highlight the quality of Dominican fashion. Our best designers, our best models, the best technicians, stylists, makeup artists and hairdressers will join their talents to further consolidate fashion in the country as the most important event in the Caribbean and one of the first in Latin America. "

Some of the designers are Nelson Tavarez, Leonel Lirio, Jose Jhan, Giannina Azar, Cinthia Avelio, Jacqueline Then, Karlos Nuñez, Modesto Castillo, Jusef Sanchez, Moises Quesada, Jose Duran, Keyther Estevez, Miguel Genao.

The Quality of this event is visible in every catwalk, in every dress or suit,  in every seem, and in every presentation you can truly feel the power of the designers creations. DM has been able to transform the fashion industry in the country. Proof of that shift is visible with Jumbo Fashionista, a Fashion stylist reality competition that pins contestant against each other in creative challenges. Jumbo is also redeveloping the local business of manufacturing and distribution in the local fashion market. Internationally, DM has been recognized by Vogue, Blonde, among other very important fashion publications around the world.

Nelson Tavarez Regeneration Speed SS2014
This will be my third year traveling from New York to Santo Domingo for this wonderful event and every year I am surprised at how much it grows each take. I will be wearing shorts and tropical colors to most of the runways and hopefully I can   finally post a few picture of my trip. I am most excited about Designer Nelson Tavarez Regeneration Speed Collection, inspired on the 17 years Cicada (chicharra) interpreted in sportswear. His collection is one of the most innovative I have seen this season so far.

We are all hoping for the best in this edition of the Fabulous Dominicana Moda. My invitation to you goes like this, Of all the places you could be in October you could be with us having a facation,  Fashion-vacation.
